Weather & Game Cancellation Policy
Lightning Detection & Game Suspension
If lightning is detected within 10 km (6 miles) of the venue, all games will be immediately suspended. We will use 30-30 rule
Official announcement will signal the suspension of play.
Players, officials, and spectators must seek shelter immediately in safe areas:
Indoor facilities or enclosed buildings
Fully enclosed vehicles with windows rolled up.
Avoid open fields, metal structures, trees, and tents without grounding.
Waiting Period & Resumption of Play
Play will remain suspended for a minimum of 30 minutes after the last observed lightning strike within 10 km.
Each new lightning strike resets the 30-minute waiting period.
The Tournament Director and Game Officials will monitor conditions and decide whether to resume play, delay further, or cancel games.
Game Adjustments After Lightning Delay
If a delay significantly affects the tournament schedule, the following adjustments may be made:
Shortened game durations (e.g., reducing game time or implementing point caps).
Modified tournament format (e.g., adjusting bracket progression).
Rescheduling of key games, if feasible.
Cancellation of games where resumption is not possible.
Determining Game Results for Canceled Matches
If a game is canceled due to lightning, the result will be determined as follows:
If 50% or more of the game has been played, the score at the time of stoppage will be considered final.
If less than 50% of the game has been played, the game may be declared a no contest (not counted in standings).
If a winner must be determined (e.g., elimination rounds), the outcome will be decided by a coin toss conducted by the Tournament Director.
Communication & Updates
Teams will receive updates through official tournament communication channels, including:
On-site announcements from the Tournament Director.
Official tournament website or social media updates.
Teams must stay informed and be prepared to resume play when conditions allow.
This procedure ensures compliance with WFDF tournament regulations, prioritizing player safety while maintaining the integrity of competition.
